The Pop Stop: Shania Twain, The 1975, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Shania Twain, The 1975, Kelsea Ballerini, 5 Seconds of Summer, Royal & the Serpent, and The Comet is Coming.

Join us inside…

Shania Twain – Waking Up Dreaming

Diamond-selling artist and country music pioneer Shania Twain has had a busy year. From a candid documentary to two new songs, she is not slowing down. Her latest release is entitled ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ and it is classic Twain. From the euphoric production to the optimistic lyrics, Twain proves three decades into her career hasn’t stopped her from making some of her best music to date.

The 1975 – All I Need To Hear

The 1975 is back with its latest single ‘All I Need To Hear.’ Set to appear on the group’s upcoming Album – ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ – the song is unlike any they have released from it so far. An acoustic ballad that is laden with flourishes of soft piano, the band steps away from its usual content matter and instead dives headfirst into a vulnerable new side. Another strong release from the band, The 1975 is proving that its upcoming album could be its finest yet.

Kelsea Ballerini – Subject to Change

Kelsea Ballerini’s latest studio album is out today and what a marvel it is. Found on the project is the title track, ‘Subject to Change.’ A glorious melding of pop melodies with country roots, the song is an ode to the ever changing facets in life. Easily a highlight of the project, ‘Subject to Change’ shows superb growth from one of country music’s most promising stars.

5 Seconds of Summer – Carousel

Hidden on 5 Seconds of Summer’s most recent album – ‘5SOS5’ – is the track ‘Carousel.’ Restless and cathartic, the song is complete with a throbbing beat, a bouncing bass line, and tinges of electric guitar. While ‘5SOS5’ may be their best album in years, it is thanks to tracks like ‘Carousel’ that make it as such.

Royal & the Serpent – I’m Fine

Alt-pop artist Royal & the Serpent is gearing up to release her new EP – ‘Happiness Is An Inside Job – on October 28 and has shared the a taste of what the project offers with her song ‘I’m Fine.’ A spirited tune complete with pounding drums and burning guitar, ‘I’m Fine’ is an excellent showcase of the singer’s raw talent.

The Comet Is Coming – Pyramids

Experimental trio The Comet Is Coming has just unleashed their most recent album, ‘Hyper-Dimensional.’ Leading the project is the single ‘Pyramids,’ which is a synth-heavy exploration of both EDM and dance music. Meticulously crafted, The Comet Is Coming delivers an exquisitely fresh take on the genre while exploring new territories. In other words, it is truly an out of this world listen.
