Inspired by the story of well-known 19th Century Ophicleide player Sam Hughes, who was famous for playing this Aria. I had never heard of it but after listening to some vocal performances on YouTube I thought I would give it a try. I used a generic score with Piano accompaniment by youraccompanist.com.
(Only later I found out that there are several versions of this aria published and "arranged" for Euphonium, Barytone or Ophicleide. I don't really get what they "arranged" as you can literally just play the original solo part like I did.)
"O Ruddier than the Cherry", aria for Bass solo from the Opera "Acis and Galatea" by G.F. Händel.
First I played it on my pre-1868 Saxhorn by A.H. Rott: https://youtu.be/1sFR_1SWycY?si=zDs6BcfxWPLqciuN
Then I was curious how it would sound on modern Euphonium. I happened to have my Wessex Festivo at the ready, but unfortunately only with the stock mouthpiece: https://youtu.be/OuD1G5hRDL0?si=8Mk7di3HFKQgfnI2
Maybe someday I'll try it on my Hirsbrunner, if it turns out people like to hear me play...
