Equality California To Honor Laverne Cox

Taking place on Sunday, September 13th, LGBTQ civil rights organization Equality California will Honor Laverne Cox and more for her amazing work via a virtual celebration.

The actress and advocate, along with Sam Feder and Amy Scholder will receive the equality visibility Award for their work on the Netflix documentary Disclosure. The recently-released film offers “an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender.” Furthermore, Pete and Chasten Buttigieg will receive the equality trailblazer award at the Golden State Equality Awards, too.

The Golden State Equality Awards will also see the 98-year-old TV pioneer Norman Lear, who was behind culture-shifting shows such as All In the Family and The Jeffersons receive the ally leadership award, to be presented by friends and fellow legends Gloria Estefan and Rita Moreno (both of whom feature in One Day At A Time, a reboot of his ’70s/’80s sitcom that’s part of the upcoming CBS fall lineup).

The awards ceremony will not only have speakers, but is slated to offer musical performances from Melissa Etheridge, Betty Who, Alex Newell, Shea Diamond and more. Watch a private stream of the event at 6 PM PT on Sept 13th with tickets available here.
