From its appearance in an episode of Scrubs to being covered by Weezer and becoming a worldwide meme sensation, Toto’s 1982 smash hit “Africa” has had a rebirth in the 21st century. Now, thanks to an art installment from Max Siedentopf, the Sony Music-released track has the potential to live on literally forever.

The Namibian-German visionary installed Toto Forever late last December while back home with his family. For the piece, six speakers are placed atop individual plinths and attached to an MP3 player that contains only the song. The entire project is powered by solar energy with the promise that it will run “for all eternity.” Though an interesting endeavor, any number of factors could destroy the whole project, ranging from hot sun to scratchy sand damaging the MP3 player or any of the speakers it is connected to.
“I was very intrigued by this and wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit ‘Africa’ in Africa,” Siedentopf told NPR. “The Namibian desert – which is, with 55 million years, the oldest desert in the world – seemed to be the perfect spot for this.” Check out a video of the art below.
