The Olympics officially began on February 9th in South Korea to the tune of the massive hit “Gangnam Style” by PSY. It only seemed fitting to feature the host country’s own K-pop stars such as PSY, Twice, Bigbang, BTS and Red Velvet.
Team USA was in the first half of the parade and was among a handful of nations that entered the ceremony as the viral hit played at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium. With 242 athletes, the U.S. team has the largest offering of athletes by a nation for any Winter Olympics. More importantly though, the North Korean flag is flying over the Olympic village, an action which required special legal permission given the long-simmering tensions between the two nations.
