On the final leg of her current world tour, Lady Gaga released the gorgeous visuals for the “Joanne” music video.
Originally released on her 2016 LP with strings and percussion, the emotional ballad served as a moving tribute to Gaga’s late aunt, whose death from lupus-related complications at age 19 provided the story behind the song. This video version is much more stripped-down and piano-driven, which goes to show that sometimes less is more.
While we still don’t know where she thinks she’s going, the message behind Lady Gaga’s new music video seems to favor the beauty of the journey over the destination.
While “Joanne” did not experience much radio popularity, Lady Gaga is expected to perform it at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards. The performance will mark her fourth consecutive appearance on the Grammys stage. She is also up for two awards at the 2018 ceremony: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Million Reasons,” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Joanne.
