Parliament Returns With First Song in 38 Years : Listen

Parliament is back to give up the funk!!

The track is the first sample of Parliament’s upcoming Album Medicaid Fraud Dog and also features Geto Boys rapper Scarface. “I’m Gon Make U Sick O’Me,” the first song released by Parliament since the group dissolved in 1980 following the release of Trombipulation, features the classic funk bass and choruses of George Clinton’s earlier work, but also includes newer flares of style from, as Clinton describes it, “all that shit coming out of Atlanta.”

He noted specific influences on the upcoming album such as Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Tra’Zae and even said he’d love to work with Cardi B.

In a Reddit AMA about the song, the inventor of Funk said, “Because the last album was Funkadelic First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate. It’s Parliament’s turn. The new album is Medicaid Fraud Dog featuring the PFunk horns Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis, Greg Thomas and Benny Cowan. The next album will be P-Funk Allstars.”

As a Parliament fan, the announcement of this new album is literally music to my ears and I cannot wait to listen to the whole thing. In the meantime, check out the first single from Medicaid Fraud Dog, “I’m Gon Make U Sick O’Me.”
