The Best Moments of The 2017 American Music Awards

This year’s American Music Awards were truly astounding. The show brought together the greatest minds and performers in music to show off what they have while at the same time paying respects to those who came before us. While the AMAs possessed a massive amount of talent, a few of the performances and accomplishments stood above the rest:

P!nk creates a daring aerial performance

While she was suspended hundreds of feet in the air on the side of the JW Marriott, P!nk used the hotel windows as her vertical stage to sing the title track to her new album Beautiful Trauma, with backup dancers/aerialists tossing her back and forth in the air in what could be described as a “death-defying ballet.” This performance was another display of artists going above and beyond to create unforgettable performances via unconventional methods.

Christina Aguilera performs The Bodyguard

Aguilera took on the prestigious task of honoring Whitney Houston and the 25th anniversary of the Houston and Kevin Costner movie The Bodyguard via a medley of “I Will Always Love You,” “I Have Nothing,” “Run to You,” and “I’m Every Woman.” She executed the performance perfectly with the exception of a few vocal wobbles, which are really inconsequential to the gravity of the whole performance.

BTS revives the classic boy band

The Korean boy band made us all remember the boy band golden days of the early 2000’s. BTS’ synchronized moves and lyrics of their song “DNA” made the experience feel like a throwback to the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC era, but their carefully-selected electro-pop instrumentals, which borrow from Kpop’s meticulously detailed sonics and hip-hop’s heavy beats, placed them ahead of the late-2010s’ pop acts and into a league of their own as they gain more traction outside of Korea.

Diana Ross shuts down the show

The crowning moment of the night came during the presentation of the AMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award to none other than Diana Ross. The former Supremes member drew on her entire career’s-worth of hits for a five-song medley to close the entire show. It was the defining moment of the night that showcased her incredible catalogue as well as her beautiful voice and stage design. We totally recommend that you watch the full video of Ross’ acceptance of the lifetime achievement award as well as her full musical medley that can be found below.

DJ Khaled also gave a shout out to Ross for covering his 2010 party jam “All I Do Is Win” after receiving the Favorite Hip-Hop Song award for his star-studded collab track “I’m the One.”
