Hevvy Serve is a band obsessed with the dark rock sounds of the 80s, infusing their brand of minimalist rock with artsy sensibilities.
Why are people so fascinated with creativity? Why can someone get people to join their cause merely by showcasing their ability to be creative? After all, almost all great cult leaders have revelled in showing their disciples their ability to sing, play music, draw or write. There are some gurus who claim to have written thousands of pieces of music or hundreds of books.
The quality of these works is rarely discussed. It doesn’t need to be. Most people do not engage in meaningful creative endeavours. Consequently, seeing someone proficient in this kind of hidden language is enough to warrant their trust.
Everybody, however, is bound to earn something by being creative. Hevvy Serve’s post-punk/goth hybrid carries with it the group’s clear interest in art in the single “Torture.” It rings throughout like the only thing that can bring about some hope in an era of faithlessness. And while Hevvy Serve’s sound is built from darkness, it’s controlled almost in the same way that meditation is.
