Try “Habit Stacking” to Help You Practise Guitar More

It has been about 10 days since I first mentioned the 30-day Habit plan which can help you establish a Guitar practice routine, and here is just a quick reminder of what it is.

If you struggle with motivation or “lack of time” for playing, then try this…

For 30 days consecutively, I want you to play the guitar every single day.

Just one chord per day.

That is it.

Pick it up and strum a chord.

If you can do this, you are far more likely to play more than just one chord if you are in the mood and…

If you aren’t in the mood, you can just put it down, guilt-free.

At the very least you have started to create a little habit of picking it up more regularly,  a habit which will help you develop a better Guitar Practice Routine.

I’d love to see you try it.

Even though you may have committed to practising for 30 days in a row, you may have fallen off the wagon and missed a day.

If so, try “habit stacking”.

This is when you build a new habit by tying it together with a current habit you already have.

For example, if you like to have a cup of tea or coffee after dinner each day…

While you are waiting for it to brew, pick up your guitar and jam something for two minutes.

Like to have a snack at 3:00 pm or walk the dog at 5:30 pm?

Pick up the guitar just before you do these things.

Maybe in terms of walking the dog, play after you walk poochie, you don’t want them to leave a turd in the hallway while they wait for you to finish playing “Stairway to Heaven”!

Anyway, we all have more time than we realise and can often fit in 10 minutes of playing here or there at the very least each day.

“Habit stacking” can help so give it a try if you need to and get on playing for the next 30 days, every day.
