You gotta love the 80s. I really mean this! You gotta love the 80s, especially the 80s glam hard rock and pop.
It’s literally mind-blowing to think that the year right now is 2023, and this song was released in 1986 (37 years ago) and it’s still one of the “songs to beat” for great rock singing!
This should say a lot!
It should say “what has happened to singing/music since then?” Or it should say, “Well Ken, rock is dead and so that’s only a small part of the pie of great singing/music.” Or a little bit of both.
Or just simply “What a great badass rock song, I challenge you to sing it if you call yourself a great singer!” (no kidding :-)!)
And much like anthemic ballads like Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Celine Dion’s “The Power Of Love”, Foreigners’ “I Want To Know What Love Is”, or powerful area rock songs like Whitesnake’s “Still Of The Night”, Dio’s “Last In Line” or Iron Maiden’s “Run To The Hills”, we see a bar that was raised incredibly high for singing.
You could rely on autotune to try sound like The Weeknd (or almost any modern day artist), OR you could decide that you do not want AI to take over the world of singing/music and determine that you are going to share your own unique voice and man up, step up to the plate, and deliver the goods!
