Searching Sylvan Album Review

So Today I am doing an Album review of Quest’s Searching Sylvan. As you probably know, I love to listen to all kinds of music and I love hearing what people have to say with their music. I have been following visionary Music group for a while now and they have 3 artists Quest, Logic and Jon Bellion.

The First artist I first heard was Logic around 2 years ago and since the the guy has gone far. From making music for the quick scopers on Call of Duty to getting features from Childish Gambino, Jhene Aiko and more. He later got signed by Def Jam Records so the guy is doing well for himself.

After listening to Logic I thought he was interesting and I thought id look to see who else Visionary had and I found Jon Bellion. Since finding out about him I have been following this guy very closely even got to see him live at Wireless festival in Birmingham, UK. I fell in love with the artists music after listening to his album Translation Through Speakers.

So like everyone else I guess I went to check who Visionary had as I really liked from their other two artists. I really went to listening to Quest expecting this guy to be a great artist. I watched the video trailer for his album and I made sure I didn’t listen to any of his singles so that I would get the full experience from his album.

I really liked the video trailer to his album as the artist sounded so sincere and show gratitude that he has come a long way to be where he is which made me even more interested to hear his upcoming project. Searching Sylvan dropped on the 2nd of september and I thought I would get it and see what he had to offer.

I liked how the album started off, with a slow soulful instrumental and it starts off with him having a conversation with his mum and her trying to give him some confidence to get on his feet. The track following is a track called Maybe I should that has him rapping on a slow track about thats happening around, well at the time just after the conversation with his mum. So I guessed the album would be his story from the start to where he is right now. I really thought that was a great idea as it was something different and something you don’t occasionally see.

As the album went through I noticed a repeating rap style. Long rap beats and the Kendrick Lamar flow. I am sorry but I wasn’t impressed. The always was a wanna be version of GOOD Kid Maaad City. Because of this I lost interest in the album. I would give the album a 5/10 as I won’t lie but I didn’t find tracks that caught my eye. When you listen to an album theres always that one song that you listen to once and you can remember the chorus or something make you want to listen to it again. Well for this album there was no such thing which was very disappointing. Something that I also picked on was the fact that even though he sounded all sincere and appreciative at the start of the album that all changed as it went along.

I think that as a rapper he should concentrate on what exactly he wants to do  as an artist and focus on it because sometimes he chose to sound like Kendrick. Sometimes he would rap is if he is the nicest guy around then afterwards do a song with a trap beat as if he’s the biggest coke dealer around and to be me its very inconsistent.

Anyway that was my review of Searching Sylvan. I hope to hear a change from him when he releases his next upcoming project but I wasn’t a fan of this current one. Please share and follow NineT3Official on Twitter. Thanks
