Are John Lennon’s Sons In Ugly Feud?

In a recent interview with Esquire, Julian Lennon candidly addressed long-standing rumors about alleged feuds with his younger brother, Sean Lennon, setting the record straight and dismissing the speculation as “such bull.”

Reflecting on their attendance at the 2021 Get Back premiere, Julian shared that Sean initially had reservations about going due to overwhelming pressure. Despite his own reluctance, Julian stood by his brother’s side, emphasizing their strong bond. “We’ve never had a fight in our life. It’s such bull,” he asserted, addressing the persistent reports of discord, particularly in the U.K. press.

Lennon acknowledged that things weren’t always smooth between him and his Family as they grappled with the weight of the Beatles’ legacy. “I posted lots of happy pictures of us [Sean and me] doing nothing but smiling, laughing and acting like idiots,” he said. “This was important for me and for the peace and for family, because there has been friction, no question, in the past between everybody. But we’re all getting a bit older, and as we get older we lose people and we realize now what’s most precious in life.”

Acknowledging the complexities of their family dynamic, Julian discussed the challenges they faced dealing with the weight of the Beatles’ legacy. Despite past friction, he highlighted the importance of sharing happy moments with Sean, reinforcing the bond that family provides, especially as they navigate the inevitable changes that come with age.

In a nod to the extended Beatles family, Julian expressed love for surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as the children of the original band members. Describing the group as a “big old, weird family,” he humorously acknowledged that, as the saying goes, “families are always a bit screwed up.”

The conversation shifted to Julian’s perspective on the iconic Beatles song “Hey Jude,” a tune penned by Paul McCartney during the divorce of Julian’s parents. Despite its sentimental beauty, Julian admitted the song could be a double-edged sword, depending on one’s mood and perspective. “It can be a good or a slightly frustrating thing,” he said, reflecting on the complexities of having a song dedicated to him.

As a musician in his own right, Julian discussed his latest album, “Jude,” released in 2022. Explaining the choice of title, he revealed, “It’s about breaking through any fear and anxiety I used to have about the Beatles, about Dad, about everything.” With this latest release, Julian Lennon continues to carve his own path in the music industry, embracing his identity and the legacy that comes with being part of one of the most iconic families in rock history.
