Oasis Members Reject ‘Royal’ Reunion With Noel

During a recent episode of his show on Radio X, former Oasis rhythm guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs made it clear that he wouldn’t accept a knighthood, nor would his former bandmate Liam Gallagher.

Arthurs and co-host Toby Tarrant were discussing the topic of the monarchy and the highest honour in the land when Tarrant suggested “Sir Bonehead” had a nice ring to it. As per typical Oasis fashion, Arthurs declined, and didn’t like it stating “I wouldn’t take it and I don’t think Liam would have it… Noel would, wouldn’t he?”.

He continued on about Liam stating: “Absolutely not, Liam wouldn’t take it, no… It sounds good but he wouldn’t have it.” Which, sounds true seeing as Liam Gallagher doesn’t seem to be a fan of all that much these days.

Arthurs’ statement highlights the continued relevance of the Oasis legacy in British music culture. Even years after the band’s dissolution, the public still looks to the members for their opinions on current events and cultural phenomena. Arthurs’ appearance on Radio X not only allowed him to reminisce about his days in Oasis but also gave fans an opportunity to hear his take on contemporary issues.

What’s-more is that even though we can say a lot about Oasis and their negative view on most things, it has to be said that at least the band are honest and have stuck to their core values over the years. Most of which being having a very “punk” attitude towards most regal things.

Bonehead’s comments on rejecting a knighthood demonstrate that the value and meaning of honours are subjective and depend on an individual’s personal beliefs and values. His appearance on the radio show also shows the continued influence of Oasis in popular culture, and the public’s fascination with the band and its members. Check out our favorite song below that has pulled some heavy influence from the band.
