Last Tango in Halifax and former Coronation Street star Anne Reid recently spoke to Telegraph and talked about a role she fancies revisiting.

Anne Reid wants to revisit her role in The Mother

Reid’s character in The Mother is a widow who has a graphic affair with a much younger man played by Daniel Craig.

“I’d go for the sex much more.” She chuckles. “I was brave, I suppose. I thought Daniel was brave to get into bed with someone that was 30 years older than him. Now you would have somebody on the set looking after you in the sex scenes.”

She was asked if she did not feel looked after. She replied:

“Oh no I didn’t, not at all. Roger [Michell, the late director] suggested all sorts of things that I didn’t like. I thought it would be very simple, straightforward, me lying on my back… No. When you get in there and they surprise you, directors, it can be very scary. I was very scared. But I was naïve. I just took it as a job and didn’t think about it.”

On The One Show, Lauren Laverne and Jermaine Jenas welcomed the celebrated actress into the BBC One studio to talk about her new play Marjorie Prime. However, her arm being supported by a sling sparked concern by former professional footballer Jermaine, who asked her: ‘’Your arm – how is it, how are you doing?’’

Having broken her arm just under a fortnight before Christmas, Anne told Lauren and Jermaine that her injury came about while trying to put up a Christmas decoration.

‘‘I fell off a ladder at Christmas putting up a Christmas decoration,’’ she shared, before admitting how difficult certain tasks have been in her everyday life without being able to use both of her hands.

‘‘I didn’t realise how many times you need both hands. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to put a bra on with one hand,’’ the former Dinnerladies star quipped.

‘‘Not quite, no,’’ an amused Jermaine responded to their guest’s remark.
