Betre – “Loving You (Isn’t So Hard)”

Bangkok-based artist Betre presents a beautifully dreamy composure across “Loving You (Isn’t So Hard),” enthralling with an emotive pop allure. A consistently serene vocal tone and gentle guitar washes assemble a spaciously magnetic engrossment, reminiscent in aesthetic to Wild Nothing. Reverbed guitar strums, hazy organs, and textural undercurrents converge with seamless cohesion. Subdued shades of influences like Cocteau Twins and Slowdive, and their knack for subdued yet impactful soundscapes, show on this stunner from Betre.

The lush guitars and organs find accompaniment in lyrics about a faltering relationship, with the title-touting vocal introduction also reminding of The Clientele. The heightened vocals arise alongside gentle organ infusions, admitting “you’re the one,” sentiments into gentle guitar twangs. “Loving You (Isn’t So Hard)” presents a gorgeous, dreamy entrancement from Betre.

“It’s almost existential, really. It’s the paradox of being so connected, yet feeling more distant than ever,’ Betre says about the track. “I guess I really took a lot of inspiration from my own life. I wanted to create something that sounds, and feels, like those bittersweet, somewhat hopeful, but also absolutely horrifying feelings of waiting for someone.”
