London-based artist Athena Lim presents a smoothly melodic sound on “White Dust,” enamoring with debonair vocals and jangly central hook. The release represents the second single from Lim’s debut EP, releasing early this summer. “White Dust” takes particular inspiration from the philosopher Bertrand Russell, surrounding the ethos that “a generation that cannot endure boredom will be a generation of little men.”

A breezy sophisti-pop charm shows in the verses, as lush guitar soulfulness and mellow vocal observations drive into the excellent title-touting hook. “White dust, white dust, would love even be enough?” the vocals ask. “Can you find it now?” The excitable guitar tones here remind fondly of Aztec Camera’s “Oblivious” in tone, lending a warm sense of nostalgia.

Blaring guitar additions past the two-minute mark excite as the lead vocals fade, settling into a tranquilly enticing reflection — “is anything enough?” — into a final hook-y “white dust,” reprisal. This is an infectious delight from Athena Lim, whose upcoming EP we’re certainly anticipating.
