Head Sound – “Optimistic”

A captivating blend of dream-pop and shoegaze stir on “Optimistic,” the new single from Head Sound, a four-piece from upstate New York. We were enthralled last month by the band’s single “Like a Painting,” which represented the first single from their upcoming debut album, and now the equally stellar “Optimistic” is the second preview from the album.

Lyrical aspirations for embracing positivity mesh with lush vocal soaring and a range of guitars, from chirpy illuminated resonance to more understated rhythmic jangling. “I wish I was better, I wanna be like her,” the vocals aspire during a magnetic chorus, referring to someone with a brightly optimistic spirit (in this case, the wife of vocalist/rhythm guitarist Stewbie). The “just like the sun,” comparison is radiant and heartfelt amidst the textured, gentle guitar caressing, escalating tonally past the three-minute turn and into a satisfying finale. We’re absolutely anticipating the band’s upcoming debut album.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
