“Storms” is another serenely gripping success from Mere Child, the UK-based project of Aimee Herbert-Smith that has impressed previously with tracks like “Cold Light of Day” and “Where We Are Now.” An intimate, introspective lyricism compels as well throughout “Storms,” described as: “Dealing with past trauma in the present. Not being able to let go, and struggling to navigate relationships.”

A gorgeous entrancement takes hold via the ghostly vocals, with lyrical reference to darkness and light reflective of a structural swell from nocturnal contemplation into jangling guitar intrigue. “Storms” develops with a climactic pull into the anthemic dream-pop repetition past the three-minute turn, sending chills into the impactful conclusion. Shades of Mazzy Star and Cocteau Twins continue to shine, aesthetically. “Storms” is an atmospheric, melodic showcase from Mere Child.
