New Orleans-based band Rare Seed fully absorb on “Gulf,” a new single that ventures into a bursting psych-rock soaring following a mellow, contemplative beginning. A morose vocal tone, with shades of Psychedelic Furs, traverse initially — complemented by warming organs and steady guitars. A reflective guitar line emerges alongside the vocals during a memorable bridge, culminating thereafter into a fuzzy wall of guitar distortion and punchy vocal layers, with shades of early Supergrass. “Gulf” is a strongly melodic showcase from Rare Seed.
