Cove‘s latest release, “Rain,” grips with bluesy rock reminiscence of the Black Keys, blending major blues-rock influences into a track that aims to leave you humming its distinctive riff rather than its vocal melody. The Italian trio, consisting of Tommaso Monaco (Tomm) on vocals and bass, Mattia Sottoriva (Sotto) on guitar, and Vittorio Dal Maso (Vitt) on drums, crafted the entirety of “Rain” in different locations, but you would not be able to tell after hearing their tight sound on the track.

The song’s roots span diverse musical tastes, with Tomm and Sotto drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, Vitt infusing jazz and new wave influences, and Sotto’s love for Sonic Youth. The promising combination results in an enjoyably straightforward arrangement, channeling a no-frills rock appeal.

Tomm captures the essence of “Rain” by saying, “I don’t know why, but when you listen to this song in a busy street under the rain at night… You get it. It just works, I can’t explain it.” Despite its familiar sound and straight-cutting song structure, the rousing track seems to hold a certain magic that comes alive in specific atmospheres, making it worth a listen, especially when the rain is falling.
