Oakland-based artist Catch Prichard casts a slow-burning spell on new single “Those That Live Dance,” whose textured folk sound finds warming enduring in the artist’s calming vocal consistency and brassy flourishes. A forlorn vocal presence complements a steady guitar-laden ruminating and textural backing, with strings bolstering the lonesome-feeling immersion with spine-chilling impact, particularly at the four-minute turn. “Those That Live Dance” compels with its strikingly delicate soundscape.

The project represents the work of Sawyer Gebauer, originally from the northern Midwest. He moved to Europe at age 19, founding the Swedish art-folk project Brittsommar, prior to returning stateside. His Oakland arrival prompted the formation of Catch Prichard in 2016, and has drawn praise in recent years from the likes of Pitchfork, Noisey, Consequence of Sound, and No Depression.
