Paola Bennet – “Call Home”

Brooklyn-based artist Paola Bennet compels on “Call Home,” the artist’s second single this year. Murmuring guitars and spacey synths complement an understated vocal lead, ascending into a gorgeously dreamy chorus that admits “I’m getting tired of laying low.” Warming guitar distortion lingers enjoyably in the background during the next rise, following the “do you talk about me the same?” questioning — feeling like the process one undergoes as they analyze a new relationship.

Past the three-minute turn, the “slow and measured,” switch-up consumes with a sturdy ’90s alt-rock nostalgia. The “I am done for,” refrain plays with powerful impact amidst the escalating guitars and bright textural backing. “Call Home” is a riveting, emotive success from Paola Bennet, whose knack for atmospheric evolution reminds of artists like Mitski, Wolf Alice, and Maggie Rogers.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
