Hazy guitar jangles build to a glistening key-touched hook on “The Next Level,” a track about the Heaven’s Gate cult. This melodic success comes via Colorado-based project Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt, which began as a dorm room project in 2010. “The Next Level” comes via their forthcoming The New Planet EP, releasing on September 15th.

“To leave behind everything we know,” the vocals shine during the chorus. “Our families they can’t stop us, our friends all think we’re thoughtless.” These recollections of cult-joining reactions are bolstered by twinkling keys that lend a woodwind-y effect, crafting a strongly melodic spell alongside the twangy slacker-rock guitars. “The Next Level” is a replay-inducing standout from Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt.
