Moontripp – “You Belong”

The hypnotic “You Belong” delivers a spacey electro-pop intrigue from Los Angeles-based band Moontripp. They note that the track takes inspiration from the poem “Kubla Khan” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and the book The Vicious Circle by Katherine St. John.

Wordless Vocal pulses and a heady bass line drive into spacey synth tones, crafting a stellar soundscape to start. “You belong,” the vocals culminate in a catching refrain, following an elongated and eerie psych-pop vocal unraveling. The two-minute mark sees an intriguing shift in darker, murkier territory with a submerged spoken-word vocal effect; this traverses seamlessly into a final melodic title-touting refrain, closing the track with thorough enticement.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Psychedelic.
