Jamie Turner – “Come Back And See Me”

Channeling a spirited throwback pop sound with hypnotic vocals and vintage string infusions, “Come Back And See Me” is the standout debut single from Jamie Turner, an artist from Perth, Western Australia. Lyrical aspirations for a more honest living — “my body needs more vegetables, wanna spend time with my dog,” — enamor alongside the playful acoustics, twangy guitar bursts, and charming string-laden additions.

Turner wrote, produced, and recorded the track entirely himself in his home recording studio, entitled “Hum Drum.” Embracing a variety of vintage analog recording equipment, the track plays with an amiable ’60s and ’70s pop sound, with folk and psych-friendly elements. Todd Rundgren, Emitt Rhodes, and George Harrison are among the noted influences.

Per the artist, the track “plays on coming out of a state of sadness and solitude. Coming to the realisation that you’ve burnt yourself out, the lyrics whimsically touch on trying to take better care of yourself and the reassurance that you’ll be okay once you get through your struggles.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
