The Government is supposed to be there to help us, but very often their policies leave me wondering what their true intentions are. I have this belief because the government is not a good resource for nutritional information. That fact is proven in that they rarely ever update the information they distribute to their citizens. You never hear the government say anything more than telling you to watch your calorie count. That is obscenely vague to the point it is harmful. That is because it is now known that calories from carbs are not equal to those from protein.The truth of the matter is that calories from carbohydrates are harder to burn off than those from protein. If the government knows this then why aren’t they explaining it? That of course goes back to the profits they make on Sugar.
What every child in school should learn growing up is that carbs, and especially sugar have a pronounced effect on our insulin levels. Insulin is your carrier hormone and without it you cannot store fat. By lowering your sugar and carbohydrate intake you are putting yourself in a position to reduce your current weight. The combination of misinformation distributed by society and by our government leads people to ignorantly get addicted to sugar. Addicted to sugar? Yes, that was not a typo as sugar is in fact as addictive as cocaine. This fact is a very important factor when trying to lose weight. Just like kicking illegal drugs, it takes three days for those crazy cravings to go away. I myself found this out the hard way when I first started a low carb diet. About 32 hours into my diet I cracked and consumed a can of ginger ale that had sugar in it. I really felt like this time was it, I was actually going to be serious about doing a real diet. Because I was unable to stay away from sugar I then felt like a complete failure and also quite guilty. That was enough for me to power through the next time I felt the urge to consume some sugar. Eventually the cravings went away as I switched all my sweetners from sugar to either stevia or splenda and things became normal for me.This was of course a new normal as I now no longer felt like an addict to sugar.
