A Photo Essay of Riding in North East India

Recently I got this very rare opportunity to ride my bike through the gorgeous landscape of North East India and this ride has made me wiser and hungrier for more rides. Though there are many similarities between, the roads, the hills and the mountains of North East and places like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand yet the riding experience in North East is completely different. The sense of insecurity tops the charts. Insecurity in the sense, there are places where for 100 kilometres you might not find a petrol pump, mechanic or even a place to repair a flat tire. But again all these add up to the adventure and the thrill of the ride, plus helps you prepare to be more self dependent.

Never compromise on the width and the pitch of your seat. A bulky seat with thick cushion might not look that good but it will not only comfort your buttock but your balls too. I’ll say it again; riding over 400 km everyday for a week will definitely hurt your balls like hell.

Replacing your clutch, hand brake and throttle cable is a must before a long ride along with an entire bike servicing. Besides that, carrying an extra set of all these cables are a must.

Learn to fix minor stuffs like changing different kinds of cable and fixing a flat tire. Do carry an extra set of tubes for both the tires.

A small pouch of grease is a must in your tool kit. Grease in your bike chain can dry up or wear off, especially on long rides through dust, mud and rain.
