The song reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts and also reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Womack's signature song. I Hope You Dance won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song and is also included in the "Songs of the Century" list compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
