DISCOVER: The Pheels and their feelsworthy, syrup-drizzled alt-pop-meets-R&B

The Pheels are one of Atlanta, GA’s latest exports; prepare to delete everything you think you knew about soul, R&B and electronica.

Genre: alternative soul, pop, electronic R&B
If you like: Thundercat, Tame Impala, Washed Out, James Blake

They say:
Nada. Absolutely zilch and nothing besides, “Curtis Fields and Phil Jones (HAUNTED) came together to create The Pheels, a perfect blend of Atlanta pop and R&B.  The duo teamed up with CONNECT, ReverbNation’s invite only artist development program.” There’s two key takeaways here: make your own mind up, and also, finally, there’s a use for ReverbNation.

We say:
Listen to The Pheels when it’s late, so late in fact that it’s way too early. Hazy and sketchy alternative noise finds home here in dark corners, where you’ll find Prince-esque vibes layered thick on ice, dripping over shoegaze-inspired synthage. R&B and funk are very much parts of the puzzle for The Pheels and their lo-fi atmospheric hooks, often taking a nosedive for psychedelic territory.

Lead single ‘RnS’ proffers more traditional hip-hop sensibilities, but these soft-as-glue vocals offer a gentler side to proceedings, exploring undiscovered realms of soulful electronica and coming up with treasure that’s cosy rather than a James Blake oppression. There’s a few demos out that promise new EP ‘likeWise’ (out 20 June) is going to give you the feels (soz).
