Knuckle talk us through their unmissable festival acts at this weekend’s Long Division 2019

Wakefield, West Yorkshire’s annual celebration of all things creative and DIY is back in the guise of Long Division 2019, with what’s likely their biggest programming yet.

Hell, multi-venue city festivals are the best, aren’t they? Long Division 2019 lands again this weekend across a series of Wakefield city venues, with Saturday 1 June giving way to a full-day music celebration, loudly focussed on championing bands from the area.

We’ll also see the return of Art Brut to the Saturday headline slot, as well as Peter Hook and The Light, We Are Scientists, Bill Ryder-Jones, We Were Promised Jetpacks and many more, with tickets starting at £29.15 here. But it’s not just about music – there’s gonna be a whole bunch of comedy, spoken word, visual arts and workshops for this year’s annual long-weekended all-rounder.

Giving us tips on who to not miss, Huddersfield’s garage-rock trio Knuckle share the bands they’ll be crossing the city for on Saturday 1 June, below.

Watch ‘Spilt Milk’ by Knuckle, out now via Philiphobia Records (a lovely label from Wakefield):

Knuckle will play Henry Boons at 3pm on Saturday 1 June. Check this year’s Clashfinder and make some space.

Read on to find out their #LD2019 tips…

Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip
Mik once came to my house to have a keyboard repaired by my housemate. Little did he know that we had a picture of him in his secret cloak of invisibility on our bathroom wall, looking over you as you went about your business. He was suitably freaked out when he went to use the facilities. Mik is one of my favourite performers ever. Absurdly funny dadaism at it’s best… ‘Condoleezza Rice’ is a firm favourite.

Cruel World
A band of the nicest lads from Leeds that you’ll ever meet. Ace musicians playing thoughtful and poppy rock.

Art Brut
‘Formed a Band’ was one of my favourite songs of the mid 2000’s. I saw them at a Leeds Festival (no idea what year) and it was a definite highlight. Can’t wait to see them again.

Cowtown
Garage rock masters! So bloody good. They’ve toured with Deerhoof… If Greg Saunier likes them, then I do too.

Disguises
Not seen these guys live yet, and only heard snippets of music but anything that Jamie Lockhart (of Mi Mye) is involved with is gold.

We Were Promised Jetpacks
Our bass player Rob is absolutely buzzing about seeing these guys. Why wouldn’t he be? They’re ace. Brilliant Scottish indie-rock.

Guy North
An absolute gem of a man from Wakefield. We’ve played a load of gigs together and he just gets better. Plays a mix of blues, country and folk.

Brooders
Heavy, psychy goodness from Leeds. Their new single ‘Daisy Chain’ is a banger.

Scott Wainwright
More Blues Folk stuff from anther Yorkshireman. Scott plays with feel, passion and humour.

Mansion of Snakes
Throwing a bit of a curve ball to finish. Mad, spacey afrobeat Jazz masters. It’ll be a reyt party!

Long Division 2019 takes place throughout the city of Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Find out more here – we’ll see you there!
