LIVE | Pretty Vicious at Camden Assembly, London | 12 March 2019

Pretty Vicious caused a raucous at London’s Camden Assembly with their brand of gritty rock ‘n’ roll.

With Camden Assembly fit to burst from the sea of excited bodies, there wasn’t much time until Welsh rock band Pretty Vicious took to the stage launching into ‘Are You Ready For Me?’. Instantly hit with raspy vocals, hard hitting drums and ferocious guitar riffs from the speakers, it was as if someone had pressed a button setting off the crowd into a frenzy of moshing and chanting in the tiny venue.

As the set came to ‘National Plastics’ and ‘Are You Entertained?’, the Camden Assembly became more like a sauna as intense energy was exerted from Pretty Vicious and their fans. Shouting back lyrics, crowd surfing and continuous thrashing bodies; this was enough for the band to feed off, enhancing their already confident, entrancing stage presence.

Drummer Elliot Jones proved his place in the four-piece delivering loud, untamed drum patterns that bounced throughout the venue. With bassist Jarvis Morgan and guitarist Tom McCarthy shredding and head-banging, you are left in a daze at the relentlessness of their performance. But it’s during ‘Cave Song’, their first ever single, that they really come into their element.

Vocalist Brad Griffiths delves into his raspy vocals further during the chorus: “Singing, drinking in the caves, all night”, punching you in the gut with the sheer power of his voice that seems to come so effortlessly to him. This was a truly special moment during the proceedings, as it was clear the room was filled with dedicated fans that had been around since the release of this single in 2015. Four years worth of following shone through in the smiles spread across the audience’s faces as their favourite band performed. Watching Pretty Vicious interact and engage with the crowd gives you a warm feeling, as they’re more than just a band playing for their fans, they’re an unconventional family expressing themselves through gritty rock ‘n’ roll.
