LIVE REVIEW | The Collier at Notting Hill Arts Club, London | 3 March 2019

The Collier created an energetic atmosphere with their alternative rock melodies at Notting Hill Arts Club.

Made up of Joshua Hixson (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Ellis Davis (backing vocals and lead guitar), Shaun Bowie (bass) and George Rutherford (drums), The Collier delivered a fantastic performance for their London show last weekend.

Entering the depths of Notting Hill Arts Club, we were met with the sweet melodies of London based indie electronic singer/producer Matilda Eyre. Delivering soulful vocals, groovy electronic beats and smooth piano patterns in ‘The Calling’, she gave a fantastic performance to warm up the crowd.

A drink in hand and the room brimming with people, it was time for The Collier to take to the stage. The London based four-piece kicked straight into their set with ‘Out Of Date’; gritty guitar riffs, groovy bass lines and tight drum patterns filled the room causing the crowd to dance.

With influences from Radiohead and Biffy Clyro, it’s no surprise we were instantly enthused with the music. Hixson’s vocals could be compared to the likes of Thom Yorke and with intoxicating guitar melodies throughout tracks such as ‘Brother’ and ‘Rushing Into’, it was as if the whole audience were mesmerised.

Having supported The Amazons in Cardiff, and worked with Ali Staton on their most recent single ‘Brother’, it’s safe to say The Collier are set for big things this year. Their live set is proof of this – fine tuned, confident and full of energy, it is a pleasure to not only listen to them live, but also watch their performance. We were thoroughly impressed and cannot wait to see what they have in store for the rest of 2019.
