Ten artists you just have to see at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival

Reading and Leeds Festival have announced a vast array of different acts, so we’ve collated the bands and artists you must see this year.

This year Reading and Leeds festival kickstarts on 25 August for the bank holiday weekend, and with the likes of Kasabian and Muse headlining, here’s the top ten acts you need to catch while there.

Declan McKenna

Having recently released his debut album ‘What Do You Think Of The Car?’, Declan McKenna has had a fantastic journey for someone at just eighteen. Starting from a GCSE Music piece ‘Brazil’, Declan is set to tear up the NME/BBC Radio 1 Stage with his politically charged electronic sound.

The Sherlocks

Sheffield based indie Band The Sherlocks are a smaller unsigned band, however they pack a punch. Having already played at Isle of Wight Festival this year, and a secret set at Tramlines Festival, The Sherlocks’ jangly guitars, raspy vocals, and melodic drum beats will take the NME/BBC Radio 1 Stage by storm.

One Ok Rock

One Ok Rock are an alternative rock band from Tokyo, delivering powerful guitar riffs, punchy vocals from lead singer Takahiro Moriuchi, and the fantastic stage presence — they are something not to be missed at Reading and Leeds Festival this year.

Superfood

The two-piece band from Birmingham bring together soft harmonies, quirky beats and melodic guitar riffs in ‘Double Dutch’, and with their self-produced album ‘Bambino’ due to be released in September, we cannot wait to see them debut the new material on the Festival Republic stage.

The Japanese House

Signed to the same label as The 1975, The Japanese House is an atmospheric experience live; merging haunting vocals, mesmerising synths, and beautiful piano melodies, The Japanese House is one to watch at Reading and Leeds Festival.

Halsey

New Jersey born singer Halsey is set to take over the NME/BBC Radio 1 stage this August with her dream pop, R’n’B paradise she calls Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. Having released her sophomore album last month, and collaborated with the likes of Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers, Halsey is a diverse, magical sight to see live. Expect high energy, raw vocals, and a brilliant presence that will have you captivated from start to finish.

Prose

This Manchester-based band pack a raw punch with their incredibly unique and natural sound. Fuelling sounds similar to Plan B, this trio merge soulful vocals, deep lyrics, and catchy guitar melodies to create a beautifully humble and profound experience; see them play the Festival Republic stage.

PVRIS

PVRIS are an act you definitely cannot miss at Reading and Leeds Festival. The American born band produce music filled with melodic electronic beats, stunning vocals, and gusty guitar; add their euphoric light display and you’re for a treat. Don’t miss them on the Main Stage earlier in the line up.

Boston Manor

Having played Vans Warped Tour and Slam-dunk Festival, Boston Manor are no stranger to festivals. This five-piece band from Blackpool will cause a ruckus at The Pit this August; tight drums, cracking vocals, and titillating guitar riffs are a sight not to be missed this year.

Fickle Friends

After announcing a UK tour this October, Fickle Friends have been taking the festival season by storm. They are set to deliver a funky, harmonic bass-filled performance, and with tracks such as ‘Cry Baby’ and ‘Glue’, we cannot wait to see the display and energy they’ll be bringing to hopefully a bucket full of late August sunshine.
