A Fistful Of Questions With Beaver Mosh

Tags: metal band music

Pancake enthusiast.  Metal fiend.  Interviewer.  This edition of Fistful of Questions goes out to the mighty Beaver Mosh!

What is your full name?

Maddie Marciniec

Do you have any aliases?

Aka Beaver Mosh ;)

Do you currently or have you ever played a musical instrument?

Hmm, kinda. I enjoyed messing around with the guitar in middle school - college. But I was never really any good. Serviceable at best. At this point, I’ve lost all of the muscle memory.

At one point I could play the Stairway to Heaven solo. But nah, I’m much better at talking about music.

Tell me about one of your first musical memories?

I was raised in an Evangelical household, a lot of Christian music. My first real exposure as a kid to “secular” music was guitar hero!

How long have you been doing heavy Metal reviews and interviews on YouTube?

Almost exactly a year. I can’t believe it has been that long already. The channel has really grown since then.

Do you remember the first Band or artist that you interviewed?

The first interview I recorded was with a project called Maggot Crown, a deathgrind band off of Vargheist Records. From that point I knew I could do it, and started recording more!

When you think of the bands/artists that you’ve interviewed, is there someone in particular that really stands out?

I recently had the chance to talk with Tomb Mold out of Toronto! For those that may not know, they are a really respected death metal band who just put out their fourth album off of 20 Buck Spin. It was a great conversation and I had a blast talking with those guys. I could tell my viewers were stoked to see me talking with them.

What inspired the name Beaver Mosh?

It means nothing! There is no thought behind the name! I guess Mosh is something you do at metal shows, but its connection to a Beaver? Who knows? I’ve always liked the idea of naming something from the combo of two off-the-wall nonsense words. It kinda sticks in my opinion.

If you could insert yourself into any one band what band would it be and why?

I feel like being in Undeath would be a blast. When I saw them, they seemed genuinely stoked to be on stage.  And from what I’ve seen of them on Twitter, they also seem like great dudes.

Who are some of your favorite non-metal bands?

Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Aphex Twin, Rush, A Tribe Called Quest, Depeche Mode

What band have you witnessed live that really impressed you with their live show?

Enslaved. You can tell they have chiseled their act. Fantastic musicians that continue to push the boundaries of black metal and progressive music.

Do you have a favorite live venue?

Here in Minneapolis we had the Triple Rock. It was a small, dive-bar like venue that was the go-to for metal bands and other heavy acts to play in the Twin Cities. Sadly, it closed down a handful of years ago (R.I.P.).

I guess taking its place would be the Turf Club in St. Paul. Another very blue-collar feeling venue that does book a good number of the metal acts that come this way.

The year is 2010.  Where are you at and what are you listening to?

I was very, very into Christian underground metal at this time. Yeah, it exists. I was listening to it.

What advice would you give young musicians that are just starting out in the music business?

Just start putting stuff out there. Begin to meet and talk to people. One connection can lead to another.

If you were to start your own music festival what would be the name of that festival and who would be the three headlining bands?

Let’s call it Beaver Fest!

Headliners: Iron Maiden, Opeth, Cannibal Corpse

What’s the longest time you’ve gone without bathing?

Hmm, I can’t stand the feeling of not showering. Maybe three days?

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I can’t stand the taste of ranch dressing!

Is the Fistful of DOOM show in the top 10 of your favorite music podcasts?

Well it is now!

Do unicorns sleep standing up?

Yes, this is common knowledge.

Do beavers mosh?

I’d like to think they do. I’m sure beavers get into death metal.

Give me three albums that I should listen to immediately, if not sooner.

Dragged into Sunlight - Hatred for Mankind

Eternal Champion - The Armor of Ire

Obtained Enslavement - Witchcraft

You’re driving cross-country and you can only listen to one album the whole time.  What album will it be?

I think I would have to listen to something anthemic and full of fantasy inspired images.. Make the long drive feel like an epic quest!

Let’s go Nightfall in Middle-Earth by Blind Guardian.

You are writing a book about your life thus far.  What is the title of that book?

“What the Hell is Maddie Doing?”

What is your favorite song by Taylor Swift?

Uhhhh I honestly do not know much music from Taylor Swift. Not really my thing haha. Hmmm, “22”?

Slipknot or Rammstein (if you had to choose)?

Slipknot makes more enjoyable music and they don’t have Till Lindemann.

Doobies or Boobies (if you had to pick one)?

I have boobies and that’s cool.

Waffles or Pancakes (if you had to pick one)?

PANCAKES

Star Wars or Star Trek (if you had to choose)?

Star Wars. I sadly know nothing about Star Trek.

Favorite band t-shirt you own?

I really love the artwork on my Rotting Christ shirt.

Favorite meal?

PANCAKES!!! Seriously, I have a pancake obsession. It’s bad.

Favorite book?

Swedish Death Metal by Daniel Ekeroth

Favorite movie?

This is a weird thing about me, but I don’t watch a lot of movies. I don’t know why the medium doesn’t click for me.

Do documentaries count? If so then it would probably be “Some Kind of Monster”.

Favorite album?

Summoning - Minas Morgul

Favorite video game?

Old School Runescape. It’s my biggest hobby outside of metal.

Favorite Professional Wrestler?

I sadly do not know the first thing about wrestling :(
