‘Spinning’ builds a head of steam, the kind that is not entirely obvious from the quiet but atmospheric opening. But then we know what Cassie Noble is capable of, a voice that soars and always finds itself surrounded by playing that is equally adept at swallowing our attention. This time I was reminded of the Innocence Mission, that emotional stirring that is rare but when it is felt every other pursuit is put to one side. ‘Spinning’ achieves a majesty with ease, an amorous gesture that will appeal even to those with fewer romantic bones in their body than most. It circulates, it cajoles but most of all it glories in the thought of how someone else can make us feel whole. KH
