If you’re old enough to have been around for the chaotic joy that was MBV’s Loveless, you’ll have heard enough tunes that fall on their arse trying to ape the sound. So it does make for a small joy when one comes along that actually works. Knew within about 15 seconds of ‘Hazy Daisy’ that the husband and wife duo had nailed it, so while it’s reminiscent of the classic distorted shoegaze sound it also brings something new and vital to the party. The vocals by Carrie Wagner are perfect, soft, ethereal but inherently powerful enough to rise above/below/between the torrent of noise so that the inevitable disorientation is ever so subtlely tempered.
