Bedouin Make An Impact At Their Second Saga Series At Pacha

As another beautiful Ibizan summer draws to end, Electric Mode sent Amber and Sean aka DJ duo Kakura down to one of the most innovative, mystical and magical nights on the Island – Saga at Pacha.

Fellow duo Bedouin were back at the reigns for Season 2 of their Saga series, building on an extraordinary debut season last year after joining Pacha from their previous residency at Heart – and receiving the coveted DJ Awards title for Best Night on Ibiza in 2019.

“Saga” goes far beyond the music – the literal meaning is a “collection of adventurous stories” and a series of stories from night into sunrise is exactly what you get from the minute you enter. The creative design and the synergy between the sets and the theatrical team is evident to see. It’s an immersive experience from the second you step foot, with supernatural visuals, mystical characters, exotic dancers and hanging acrobats making their way from stage to Crowd – engaging everyone in a real three-dimensional encounter. And this year, duo Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe really stepped up the magic in the series and line-ups they curated. Following Bedouin’s unique and renowned surrealism theme, the dance floor was totally locked in, with their dark and sinister, but playful, circus energy – as intoxicating as ever to be sucked into for the night.

First to the stage was American born DJ, producer, live instrumentalist and activist LP Giobbi. Fresh from a summer of Ibiza gigs ranging from R1 Dance to Defected and Elrow, LP Giobbi has been having an incredible year amidst multiple tours and releases. As proceedings began and the crowd started to filter in for a night of otherworldly sounds and grooves, LP Giobbi mesmerised them under the Saga moons. She conducted the Charlie Chaplin-esque performers and dancers winding in petticoat skirts, impressively playing live melodies on the piano and dropping a beautiful rendition of her new remix for Bedouin – coming soon.

As the paranormal activities wore on into the night, the immensely talented Red Axes took to the stage under the geometric patterns glowing over the dance floor from the ceiling. The Israeli electronic and indie music duo, formed by Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi have an exceptionally eclectic sound ranging from disco, house, garage rock, post punk, psychedelic rock to techno. Usually found performing their live acts, this evening they captivated the crowd with an eclectic DJ set filled with limitless creativity and depth. As they energy peaked, they dropped their track ‘Flawless feat. ECHO’, and a particularly trippy, helter-skelter tune by Alexander Robotnick – Undicidisco (Justin VanDerVolgen Edit), entrancing the crowd and the performers even further.

Finally came the headliners – to a warm and enthralled reception from a bewitched crowd of dancers swaying under the hanging fabric and ornate, Baroque-style installations, with shooting stars flashing around the ceiling. The duo’s wide-ranging musical vision, with Middle Eastern origins and Western sounds, captured the crowd and they tore on, building their classic spellbinding atmosphere. As the lights dimmed and washed us and the dance floor with jewelled red, to yellow, to blue tones, Bedouin continued to assault the senses and hypnotise the crowd with their organic sounds and pounding grooves. Having dropped their own new album earlier in the year ‘Temple of Dreams’, they began drip feeding some of the album’s best records into the early hours of the morning. The album is now in its remix stage and the duo dropped one of the biggest so far: ‘Tijuana (Vintage Culture Remix)’, to a tantalised crowd as well as one of our personal favourites of this summer, ‘Umami, atsou and Drupe Hav – Never Wanted To Be’.

Other Guests this summer included Acid Pauli, AMÉMÉ, Birds Of Mind, Bonobo, Brina Knauss, Carlita, Chloé Caillet, Damian Lazarus, Danny Tenaglia, DJ Tennis, Francesca Lombardo, Guy Laliberté, Henrik Schwarz (live), Jan Blomqvist (live), Layla Benitez, Mano Le Tough, Monolink, Pete Tong, Seth Troxler and WhoMadeWho.

All in all, it was a beautiful, spooky and fascinating night – filled with enchanted beats, eye-catching colour palettes, cryptic vocals and sprinkles of ethnic flavours that transport you away from the Balearics and right back again in one night – classically Bedouin. We definitely look forward to seeing what Saga/Pacha Season 3 has in store for next year…
