What first drew you into music?

What first drew me into Music was the escape it provided and the emotion it provoked. A song causes you to feel something and often times music allows you to feel emotions that go beyond words. I think these feelings and understanding that doesn’t need to be stated in words is the most powerful language and form of information there is. I love the way music makes me feel and the ability to create music which goes beyond myself makes me feel extremely whole.

Your track “Trust In Me” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?

Thank you so much I really appreciate those words. Often what appears to be a short amount of time is the combination of a longer history of moments. I’ve been developing my sound for a few years now and it came from being very aware of myself, being open to trying new things, and a ton of experimentation. I’ve made almost every style of electronic music you can imagine although most of these songs I never released. Over the past year or two my style really clicked and I began to have a clear vision for my music and myself. I think a signature sound comes from creating art that is as authentically you as possible. You can’t be like anyone else besides yourself and if you can appreciate others for their differences and help everyone to be the best ‘them’ they can be the world opens up.

My creative process is extremely open. I always follow my intuition and if the universe is telling me to create a collage that day, then I create a collage. If I’m pulled to draft a business plan I will do that, or if my intuition tells me I absolutely need to make a song in that moment then that is what I’ll do. Similarly, when I create a song I focus on the feeling and start with sounds that inspire me. When working with others I play to their strengths and typically like working and adapting to their creative process. That being said I write down long term plans and goals as well and it all comes together in the end.

Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?

I do indeed love experimenting with new sounds I’m glad you noticed that! My studio setup is very basic I don’t think you need a lot to create great music. I have two JBL studio monitors, a midi keyboard, my laptop, and a computer monitor. I also just purchased the Nord Lead 4 which is an analog keyboard from my friend Stst (check his music out on Spotify it’s extremely fire). This is all in my room which I keep really organized and my walls are covered in pieces of visual art I’ve created. Some of my favorite plugins are the Ableton saturator, overdrive, the Soundtoys bundle, Omnisphere, Sylenth, and Valhalla Vintage Verb.

Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?

I use a keyboard to play a lot of my melodies. I think a lot of the beauty in life comes from minor imperfections. Us as humans are naturally imperfect and we are drawn to things which we can relate to. The best artists are able to capture these imperfections and frame them in a way which is remarkable. This is why I like playing a lot of my melodies in myself and adding in sounds that are distorted and random but work in the song. Thank you for saying my music sounds authentic I always love hearing that!

What are your musical goals for the future?

I feel like I could write an entire essay on this question I spend so much time focusing on my goals. I’ll keep it short though. I have a year plan with different release goals and live performance goals. Some of them include playing a show in Seattle and three other new cities, releasing 12 songs this year, and positive streaming growth for 9 out 12 months. A more fun long-term overarching goal for the future is to play a main set time in the Sahara tent at Coachella. A broad and general musical goal I have is to continuously push the boundaries of electronic music both in the songs I release and in the style of my live performances.

What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

One goal for the coming months is to release a few songs in early 2020 with a couple labels which I can already put a check in the box for that goal. I also have the goal to play direct support for another major artist in the next coming months. In terms of Upcoming Projects to get excited about take my word for it when I say 2020 is going to be the biggest year yet. I have a series of releases taking place throughout 2020 and have been working non-stop in 2019 for everything that is about to come. Check my instagram @frizofficial if you’re really dying for some hints at a few of these projects.

Thank you so much for this interview! I loved answering your questions they were really fun. Also thank you to everyone reading this. Stay awesome, stay positive, and do something nice for someone today. I hope you all have a great day and week.
