What first drew you into music?

I first started taking piano lessons and learning Music theory in 2nd grade but I think what really drew me into music was drumming.  I started drumming in 3rd grade and got a set in 5th grade.  Once I got the set, I started drumming everyday for hours.  I was listening to so much rock music back then, basically everything my older sister would expose me to like Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, System Of A Down, Sugarcult, Brand New, Green Day, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Sum 41 etc. and then all the metal happened later in like 6th-11th grade.

Listening to your music we can tell you love incorporating interesting new sounds and techniques within each track! What inspires you to experiment and evolve?

I genuinely love all sorts of styles of music and don’t want to ever feel like I’m putting myself in a box creatively.  I think what has always inspired me is people doing something unique so I’m always looking to make something that’s never been done before, but at the same time trusting in the natural creative process.  That’s something that’s cool about Los Angeles is all the different intertwining scenes of culture and art with different perspectives and people trying new things. That inspires me for sure.

It seems like you already found your signature sound Do you have any tips for upcoming musicians that can’t seem to find their own sound?

I’ve heard other producers and artists say the same thing; don’t worry about having a signature sound!  I feel like all you’re doing when you label yourself is taking the fun away from the process and making it harder to create.  Just go make a bunch of different music and your signature sound will naturally reveal itself.  No one else is going to have the exact influences and background that you have and that uniqueness will naturally create a signature sound for you.  That’s just my opinion though.

Your track “Taking Me Under” is your best track in our opinion! From its artwork to the Incredibly powerful sound we absolutely love it. Could you tell us more about the story behind this track? Also, what is your creative process like?

Thank you, you can checkout more of the artist’s stuff on IG @Umbheat.  The idea behind that song was to have a metal styled rhythm but really hit like a bass track or rap track.  I was drumming and liked the riff and put it into my computer and then replaced the audio with drum samples.  From there I added some guitar and FX and what not, recorded vocals to it, and that’s pretty much it. It’s kind of dark lyrically about a relationship, but there’s still a sense of hope and possibility to it of true love and meaning in life and that optimism ads a spin to it.  As for the creative process, I usually start with a melody or some sort of texture, sometimes I’ll start with drums, I usually make the whole outline of a song in a day, from there if I like the track I’ll spend sometimes weeks or even months shaping it into basically an environment.  I love songs that take you somewhere else and create a whole other world, but also minimal music that will hit at a show or in a venue.

What are your musical goals for the future?

2020 music goals are to consistently be writing, recording, producing and putting out new songs.  Also to keep performing and putting on shows and shows in different states and cities too.  Ultimate music goals are to make music that heals people, make music people deeply connect with and play shows all over the world.

What do you have planned for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

Two videos are on the way, one for the single “In California” and the other for “Taking Me Under”.  Taking Me Under is still in the works but In California is done so that will definitely be dropping soon.  We are all excited about that one, my friend Morgan did a great job shooting it, directing/editing etc.  Other than that, maybe a merch drop before the New Year and maybe some new music.  Got a show coming up on December 20th with a bunch of fire artists so definitely hit that up if you’re in the LA area.
