An Alternative Indie Pop And Hip-Hop Artist, Meet HORNS

What first drew you into music?

My dad told me that when I was younger I used to prance around singing and pretending to perform. Music is just something I’ve always loved and had a talent for. Although, I can say that bands like Linkin Park, Evanescence, and OneRepublic had a huge impact on me as a young musician.

Your track “need me some bands, hoe” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?

I honestly just use my “musical ear” to determine how I want my vocals to sound on a track. It differs with each one. For this particular song, I found the beat and loved how unique it was. So I started rehearsing lyrics I had prewritten, again and again, until the flow was just right for the beat. The mixing process consisted of adding compression, eq, sizzle, and tweaking things here and there until it sounded right to me. My creative process can be very structured, but most of the time it’s spur of the moment. My best work is done spontaneously.

Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?

My studio setup is very basic but it gets the job done. I have a desk in my bedroom where I lay out my laptop, mic, midi keyboard, and studio monitors, ready for use. I currently don’t have any favorite plugins. (Other than maybe the reverb plugins pre-loaded into Logic Pro X.)

Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?

I play 3! I started taking guitar lessons when I was 10, taught myself piano at 12, and then also picked up bass when I was 14. I tried learning cello when I was 16 but had to quit due to problems with my wrist.

What are your musical goals for the future?

My musical goals for the future would be to establish myself in the music industry not only locally but worldwide. I’m currently getting my Associates of Science in Music Production online at the Los Angeles Recording School. Even if I don’t breakout as an Artist, my goal at the very least is to become a well-known, world-renowned Producer.

What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

My goals for the coming months are to continue studying and learning as much as I can about Music Production, as well as promoting my current body of music and building my audience. I’m also hoping to start playing shows again, and maybe even release a new album at the end of next year?
