What first drew you into music production?

I was drawn to Music production about eight years ago when I went to my first local electronic show and I heard remixed mainstream music for the first time.

You are one of the best up and coming remixer/producer we have encountered on the internet! And your latest remix of pity party is one of our all time favorites. How do you know if a song is a good candidate for a remix? Also, what is your creative process like when making a remix?

Thank you it really means a lot! Personally, if I start singing melodies on top of a song, then I’ll probably end up remixing it. I’m also really drawn to songs with varying lyrical sections. The most common place I start with remixes is looping the verse and chorus vocals to write chords and melodies. This helps me capture what originally drew me to the song and to start establishing chord progressions. From here I trade off between writing the music and sound design, but the notes always come first for me.

Your latest EP “With Friends” is another great example of how capable you are as a producer! The mixing is on point and the melodies/ideas are out of this world! Could you tell us more about your studio setup and some of the plugins used to create this EP?

Sure! My studio setup evolved a lot over the years because of being a bedroom producer when I was in college, living at home and at my old apartment. These days my studio has its own dedicated room with the main parts being the iMac, KRK Rokit 6 studio monitors and my 88 key midi piano. I also have accumulated various microphones hand percussion instruments, guitars, bass and a few new synthesizer additions.

For the EP, I used Massive for the vast majority of synth design. I used The Giant by Native Instruments for all of my piano needs. Brass can be tricky, so I used a mixture of recording myself, Native Instruments, Logic’s internal brass as well as Sonivox for certain parts. My go to reverb without question was Valhalla, it’s just pure magic!

Your signature sound reminds us of the sound of some of the greatest EDM producers in the world (Two friends, Porter Robinson etc). How did you manage to achieve such a professional sound in such a short time? Can you tell us more about your musical background?

When it comes to Music Production I’m completely self-taught. I would write constantly after class and soak up as much information about mixing as possible. Anything from video tutorials to talk shows like Pensado’s Place and even interviews with artists were, and are still, all incredible sources of knowledge!

I’m a classically trained pianist by trade, but I was really inspired by Billy Joel early on. Besides piano, I play trumpet and French Horn because of band in middle school and high school. I also enjoyed singing and performing in a lot in musicals! I started releasing remixes in college and graduated from ECU with a degree in music composition and theory.

You have started putting up music on Soundcloud three year ago and you are already getting hundreds of thousands of views! How does it feel to receive such a warm welcome from the community?

It’s been incredibly heartwarming to know that people are connecting with my remixes and now my own original music. The best I can do is express how thankful I am and keep putting out music that I’m passionate about composing.

What are your goals for 2018? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

My main goal is to have an EP completely written and finished by August 1st. After that, who knows!
