“PULSE” is new release out now on “Boomslang Records”. Sylvie Courvoisier (piano) and Alfred Vogel (drums) had recorded together this album. The duo makes great combos, rare tunes, express huge range of expressions and emotions and create interesting sound. Both musicians have driving style, expressive and vital Playing manner, extraordinary and original point of view and unique sound. That makes an effort to their improvisations – it’s filled with fresh, evocative, strange or even crazy musical decisions. The music is luminous and bright, full of strong contrasts, sparklinf flashes, bursting spills, powerful blasts and fascinating experiments. Musicians are experimenting on different cases and sections of musical language – they’re making rare and weird instrumental pairs, strange timbres, experimental and innovative playing techniques, eclectic stylistic pairs or simply outrageous, modern and individual musical decisions. Their music is all based on free improvisation, experimental and avant-garde jazz. These elements are gently twisted together with various styles of modern and contemporary jazz. The musicians are already famous on international avant-garde jazz scene – they have been playing and improvising together with huge range of other famous improvisers.

“PULSE” is filled with bright tunes, original ideas and sparkling sound. All compositions are based on free improvisation and the main elements of avant-garde jazz. An influenze of bebop, hard bop, post bop, cool, mainstream, contemporary and other modern jazz styles is detected. The tunes of ethnic music of various world countries are used as a coloristic elements – afroamerican, american, the tunes of Western Europe are all mixed up together. Huge range of rhythms, sounds, styles, expressions and inventions is used here. The musicians are mixing them up to one place in gentle, bright and authentic way. They’re experimenting on instrumental section – inventions of new, authentic, specific and unusual ways of playing makes an effort to innovative and expressive sound. Fresh ideas, evocative expressions, experimental decisions, outrageous or even crazy ways of playing are used along with special effects, strange tunes and traditional playing techniques. Musicians don’t follow the old rules – they’re making their own instead of them, but still save the main basics and roots of avant-garde jazz. Inspiring, driving and colorful sound is the aim of their music – that’s the reason why they’re diving in contemplative and fascinating researches of sounds, making rare combos or sudden waves and experimenting on all cases of musical language. Multi-colorful and universal musical pattern is created – it has dozens of layers who are accompagnied by textures, ornaments, all types of rhythms, tunes, expressions and chords. Piano improvisations keep the basic of melody. It’s also the source of drive, fresh and sparkling spills of energ, dynamic turns and pleasant surprises. Pianist has hot and expressive playing manner who is based on synthesis of bebop and free improvisation. Complicated rhythms, sharp chords, aggressive sequences of disonances, expressive melodies are mixed up together with free, turbulent, moving and vibrant improvisations. Swingy and cool rhythms, passionate solos, sharp stitches, powerful blasts, breaking sessions, vibrant solos, static and stable chords who meet flowing and dizzy passages – that’s the main base of piano improvisations. The music is like a playground – there are dozens of different textures, one mood is changing the other in delicate and silmunateous way. Colorful expressions, special effects, experimental ways of playing, different kinds of rhythms and driving style makes fantastic melody line. Drums section is based on all kinds of rhythms. Afroamerican and American rhythms meet stable cool, complicated and dynamic bebop, aggressive and thrilling hard bop, modern and original post bop, variable mainstream and finally – free, blasting, powerful and turbulent avant-garde jazz. Strange timbres, colorful sounds, rare and exotic instrumental pairs, gorgeous ornaments and textures – all these elements colorfully illustrate whole rhythmic section. The rhythmic section is impressive and solid – it’s gently fit together with melodic section and piano improvisations. It’s a real pleasure to listen to this album – it has innovative, experimental and bright sound.
