For an aspiring musican, location is key. Most people say LA or NYC are the places to go, and while they do have a rich Music scene, the competition is fierce and the cost of living is sky high. So what are some alternatives that offer lighter competition and cheaper living expenses? Here are 5 of them.
Number 5: Portland Oregon
Portland Oregon is a beautiful city with a diverse music scene that has something for everyone. There is a very popular jazz festival that is held there annually, but there is a place for metal musicians in this amazing city. Along with the diversity they have an endless amount of bars to land gigs at!
Number 4: Atlanta Georgia
Atlanta is an all around great place to live. The weather is nice, it’s affordable, and there is a great music scene. Atlanta is home of the many great metal bands such as Mastodon, I recommend looking into this city for anyone.
Number 3: Seattle Washington
Seattle is by far my favorite city on this list, it’s home to some of the greats such as Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Jimi Hendrix. It’s also very beautiful and loaded with rich culture, the only downfall is it is fairly pricey to live here; but not impossible to manage. At least go visit this beautiful place and see what the scene is all about!
Number 2: Nashville Tennessee
Nashville is the most famous on this list, in regards to music. It’s home to the all time greats of country music; but that’s not all Nashville is! There is a rich underground metal scene here in Nashville, and is home to many famous acts like Whitehall. It’s also very affordable to live here while working on a music career.
Number 1: Austin Texas
Austin Texas is very affordable, and one of the most diverse places you can go to. Austin Texas is potentially THE best, and you can ask anyone. There are lots of venues to play at, and plenty of opportunities to network with the music industry. Austin Texas is for sure the place to go!
