Media Update - Starting College + New Website

Oh my. As I mentioned in a recent Q&A, I am going to be heading to college very soon! Boy, I am so excited, honestly.
In addition, I am going on a mission trip to Costa Rica in less than two weeks and I will be making a second trip to see my grandpa (and ApologetiX!) in August.

And I feel like it is finally time to slow down.

This is the last thing that I want to do. When I tell people about my website, I love sharing the fact that I have been posting every single week since November 28, 2014. It really is such a sense of pride and accomplishment that I have been so consistent at something. For many of my media projects and ideas, this is not the case. It makes me so happy to think about that.

But while I am not stopping my website, I have decided not to rigidly make myself post every week. I would love to do that, but it might not be possible. Who knows, maybe I’ll have a week of so many assignments and not have time to post a post. I’m not gonna force myself to do that. But I know that my brain is very creative and I would have posts most weeks. The only thing I am gonna make myself do is make sure I at least post once a month. I don’t want my website to die, am I right?

But in addition to that, I feel like my posts could be better and some are forced. In doing this, I will be focused more on quality than quantity. It has practically become a cliché in content creation now, but it still rings true. All the same, a balance must be kept. So I will make sure that I will post at least once a month and most likely new posts will be up on Fridays. So don’t come to my website every day looking for a post on a day that I wouldn’t post. (If I don’t post on Friday, my next choice is usually Tuesday.)

But there is one more reason why I am slowing down my posting schedule. I am starting a new website!!!

Surprise!!!

This may be quite surprising, but when I explain, I think it will all make sense.

So, as you know, since late 2015 I have been super into Music and that is all I talk about on my website (and in real life). I feel like I have alienated my audience by talking too much about music and I feel like that needs to stop. But I don’t wanna stop. I wanna share music with the people. So I decided to move the music off my website and onto its own website.

Introducing: “Christopher 164’s Music Zone!!!”

My goal is not to be the next JesusFreakHideout or [fill in the blank], but is just a separate platform for me to share the music I like and wanna share. I want to strengthen my critique skills and I think this will be an easier way to snatch review copies (yeah!). I hope to not only review albums, but also interview artists and have free downloads and giveaways.

The thing is that I am not gonna hold myself to a schedule of any sort on this website. This is a totally “whenever I want to” website. I was considering having an “Indie Artist Of The Month” on the website, but while I still might do something like that, I do not want to force myself into a schedule of any kind. So I might have like a “Song That I Want To Share Now” or “Artist Spotlight,” but I won’t force myself to change the song every week and I won’t force myself to feature a new artist every month.

But I feel that the main focus of this website will be the reviews. I will be reviewing albums from the present and from the past. I will be willing to accept review copies from independent artists and support them.

I will say that this website, of course, will focus on only Christian music (or Christians in a band without contradictory messages). Let me give some examples. Skillet prefers to be called a Christian band. They have made this clear. But others like Lecrae or Switchfoot do not like being labeled as a Christian band/artist, though they are Christians (in a band). But other acts, namely Twenty One Pilots, are not associated in the Christian industry but are Christians. While I do personally have mixed feelings if I would do a 21P review on the website or not, they might be acceptable enough for me to do so. So again, Christian bands or artists associated in the Christian industry are fine, but those who aren’t in the CCM world like 21P are in the grey.

And one more note. NewReleaseToday recently announced that they will no longer promote Christian albums with swearing. It’s sad to see bands like Kings Kaleidoscope, The Classic Crime, or P.O.D. to have the [-]-word in a song. This should not be. I will not get into the theological aspect of it now, but the Bible explicitly (pun intended) says that we are not to swear and cuss.

Of course there are some words that are middle ground and people debate about those words (namely h--- and d--). I have not made an official decision about those. At the very least, I will not be promoting albums as a whole with the bright red E in iTunes.

So, no Chance The Rapper.

But just like David in Psalm 51, there is forgiveness for all.

Anyways, that is that. I am not committing myself to a post every week anymore and I now have a new website! Bittersweet.
