Indie band KOATES will perform their debut performance at The Great Escape Festival of Brighton this week, with their new cool single 'Escalators'.
The London based trio is composed by James Coates (Vocals/guitar), Jojo Macari (Bass/backing vocals) and Joe Perkins (Drums). They met each other by chance and they created a fantastic sound and song-writing dynamic: front-man James ran into bassist JoJo in a guitar shop in Denmark, shortly after James and JoJo met drummer Joe whilst he was on a date in a curry house in London. Joe’s date didn't go so well, but the band was formed!
The debut single 'Escalators', produced by Larry Hibbitt (Nothing But Thieves, Don Broco) talks about the alternation of good and bad feelings that follow a break-up in a relationship. The upbeat rhythm of the song and the glissandos of the lyrics, reproduce the movement of escalators that go up and down.
Frontman James says about 'Escalators', “This song had been buzzing around my head for a while, It wasn’t until I was going through a difficult time in a relationship that the lyrics flew out naturally, along with JoJo putting himself in my shoes”.
You can meet James, JoJo and Joe at the “Beach House” stage of The Great Escape Festival 2018 on May 18th.
Their next live dates in London for this summer will be:
June 7th - Paper Dress Vintage
July 20th - Sebright Residency
Aug 17th - Sebright Residency
Sept 21st - Sebright Residency
