Rising Star Lucy Neville Releases Dreamy Electro-Pop Song 'Ransom'

Tags: music ransom song
Lucy Neville describes the Song, “Ransom is about falling in lust and then falling in love. The initial curiosity, the pounding of your heart and the longing to belong to one another. I wrote Ransom for the millions of lovers who have faced the ‘Now or Never’ dilemma, and for that one moment of panic as you send that ultimatum text. Lovers, I hope the answer is NOW.”
Teen Vogue USA dubbed Lucy as the 'latest breakout artist' for her debut EP 'Lady' and she has had an incredible 6 million-plus streams from her music to date. 'Ransom' is just the next step in Lucy's exciting journey.
We caught up with Lucy just before the release of her new single 'Ransom'
How would you describe your sound to new listeners?
I guess I would describe it as electro-pop/ethereal?! But I have so many different songs in so many different styles, I’m always mixing it up!
Tell me about your new single 'Ransom'?
Oh, 'Ransom'! I love 'Ransom' so much. I wrote 'Ransom' late 2017 after a studio session with my producer/wonderful human Marc Malouf, and we had been working all day on a song and we just couldn’t get it to work and it was so frustrating! So anyway, I took the music home and ended up writing a whole new song to the music in 20 minutes. I give you, 'Ransom'!
What is inspiring you musically at the moment?
Musically I’m so inspired by lyrics at the moment! I’m all about lyrics. I am such a sucker for really honest and clever writing. I love Lorde’s 'Melodrama' album & Vance Joy’s 'Nation of Two'. I think so highly of them as people and as artists and I feel like it would be hard NOT to feel connected to their story when you listen to their music.
What do you find are the biggest challenges in the music industry in this day and age?
Oh, we face new challenges all the time. I suppose the double edge sword of the changing industry is always surprising us. On one hand it is so easy to release music worldwide, but on the other hand, there’s so much music being released! So being heard is often a challenge, which is why I’m so grateful for platforms like you guys at BritznBeatz who give me a voice.
How has the past year changed for you?
The past year has been wild! I have reached audiences I could never dream of reaching and I signed on for a streaming project with a major label, which was epic! I’ve learned so much and grown so much as a person and an artist.
I feel like I’ve learned to be more accepting and easy going of whatever life throws at me. I spent so long being so caught up on every little detail and afraid of failure, and I guess this past year I have discovered it is so much better to dream wildly and look at the bigger picture.
Is there a lyric or track that is particularly meaningful to you and why?
Oh, this is so tough! I love 'Supercut' by Lorde and pretty much every lyric in that song, particularly “In my head, I do everything right. When you call I’ll forgive and not fight. Because ours are the moments I play in the dark, we were wild and fluorescent, come home to my heart.”
LIKE is that not incredible?
Top 3 tracks of 2017/2018
No surprises here...
1. 'Supercut' by Lorde
2. 'Ocean Eyes' by Billie Eilish
3. 'New Rules' by Dua Lipa
(Bonus 4. 'I’m With You' by Vance Joy)
What keeps you awake at night?
The meaning of life...I won’t dive into it but if I let myself think too much about it, it keeps me up all night.
Is there a book or song that has changed your life and why?
Oh, this is a tricky one. I’m going to say no. There’s not one single song that has changed my life because there is so many.
I’m not much of a reader but music is everything to me.
I will say that my ULTIMATE top 3 songs of all time that I believe have contributed to who I am are...
1. 'Higher Love' by Steve Winwood
2. 'Chemistry' by Semisonic
3. 'Learning to Fly' by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Guilty pleasure?
Oh...I’m not proud but I LOVE trash reality TV. Ha! Married at First Sight, Big Brother, The Bachelor...I love it all.
There is a film being made about your life - who would play you and why?
That’s such a good question! I would love Emma Stone to play me in a film about my life. I think she’s so fun and cute and I think she would do an awesome job!
What's next for Lucy Neville?
Always new music! I’m always working on music with my producer and hopefully, soon I’ll be able to play some live shows! We will just have to wait and see!
Thank you so much BritznBeatz! I love you.
