New Portals Go 'Sober' For October

New Portals show their true class with their new release, ‘Sober’ which is about celebrating sobriety with all proceeds from downloads of the single going to Macmillan and the Go Sober For October campaign.
Regarding their new single New Portals say, “‘Sober’ is about your ‘desert island friend’, the friend where you would be perfectly entertained if you were stuck on a desert island with them. No need for external help to have fun, ‘Sober’ is a celebration of this type of bond that we all need.”
New Portals flung onto the music scene earlier this year with the release of their EP ‘Stereo' which saw much Critical Acclaim most impressively by The Guardian, Dork Magazine and Missguided among many others.
'Sober’ explores a range of soft electronic instruments,
alongside the beautiful harmonies the Belfast duo create with the voices. During the choruses, you can hear the faint line of a brass section, as well as synths. The most stand out moment in the song is when most instruments drop out, leaving just the guitar and a
choral high note, before Ruth Aicken’s vocals come back in, with the lead line in the whole track. "We like to party when we're sober". This has enormous meaning when partnered with the idea and cause behind this track.
The delicate vocals and sumptuous textures involved lead it to be a music lover’s perfect song, and I expect it to get the same critical acclaim their debut ‘Stereo’ achieved.
