Fate Brings Upstairs Open Together For Debut Single

'You Got Love' is the Debut single from Daniel James and Courtney Painter who make up Upstairs Open and their story stretches back for years. Through very serious sickness and different career paths, fate has finally brought the duo together to make music. 'You Got Love' is produced by James Earp (Fickle Friends, Bipolar Sunshine) and is a glorious swirl of electronic and folk and although their harmonies intertwine, they don't like to call it a duet. Courtney explains that a mutual Love of contrasts has enabled their own signature sound, and she and Daniel describe this as a “balance” that draws each corner of Upstairs Open together. It's a significant introduction to the duo and also the first taste of their forthcoming debut EP.
Speaking about the track they explain, “"'You Got Love' is a song about temptation, lust, and discovery. People can become lost in curiosity, with a bittersweet understanding of knowing that when you can't have something, you want it more."
'You Got Love' is a subtle piece of work. With an atmospheric backdrop and quiet brush strokes, the ribbon-like harmonies and the simmering emotion make it very memorable. Courtney and Daniel have been on an interesting journey to get this point, but it's just the beginning.
