Brooding Pop From The Desert With 'Playing Dead'

The Desert specialise in mellow music which has a rather dreamy aesthetic. Their recent debut single 'Just get High' had much acclaim from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Radio X and music publications. 'Playing Dead' was inspired by singer-songwriter Gina Leonard moving back to her parent's house in a tiny village, living in a bubble and longing for escape. The track was recorded by the second half of the duo, guitarist & producer Tom Fryer in his Bristol bedroom. 'Playing Dead' was one of the initial sparks that turned their early collaborations into what has become the group they are today.
"Watching TV in a power cut,
I've got nothing in my head,
I've been sitting still for hours,
Guess I'm good at playing dead,
And the storm's eye is still open,
Wind is stroking the walls outside,
It's the best excuse I've been given,
To pull the curtains to unhide,
Cos I was raised by white liars,
Wrapped in cotton wool and sellotape,
Put to bed when I was tired,
But I stayed up and laid awake."
The Desert is this generation's Portishead for super chilled out, hypnotic music which is the perfect accompaniment to whatever you are doing.
